Home and Away spoilers follow from Australian episodes, which some UK viewers may prefer to avoid.
Home and Away aired its first episode of 2021 in Australia today (February 1) – and it was a tense time for Colby Thorne's loved ones as his life hung in the balance.
Last year, the final episode for 2020 ended on a cliffhanger as Colby (Tim Franklin) found himself surrounded by dangerous inmates in prison. The group of thugs were out for revenge after discovering that Colby used to be a policeman.
In the 2021 season opener, Colby received emergency medical treatment at the scene before being rushed to the Northern Districts Hospital for further help.
Jasmine Delaney (Sam Frost) was horrified to see her friend in such a bad state and disregarded protocol by tipping off Colby's sister Bella Nixon and best mate Dean Thompson over what was going on.
Colby's future was left uncertain as there were no immediate signs of him regaining consciousness.
Bella (Courtney Miller) and Dean (Patrick O'Connor) feared the worst, but were only allowed a few minutes at Colby's bedside after Jasmine found a way for them to sneak into the hospital.

Later on, Bella and Dean had a grave talk about the situation and appeared to be on completely different pages.
While Bella was confident that Colby would make a full recovery, Dean grimly argued that Colby would keep being attacked in prison even if he survived this particular attempt on his life. In Dean's eyes, his friend was already a dead man either way.
As Bella got busy researching prison protection wings, Jasmine was relieved as Colby finally regained consciousness at the hospital.
Will life behind bars improve for Colby, or is Dean right about him still being in terrible danger?
Home and Away fans in the UK will see these scenes on Channel 5 later this month.
