Home and Away – Spoilers for Lewis's comeuppance

Huge Home and Away spoilers follow from recent Australian episodes, which some UK viewers may wish to avoid.

Home and Away has exposed Lewis Hayes's true villainous nature on UK screens this week.

The vengeful nurse has spent the past few weeks making allegations of incompetence against surgeon Christian Green, but it seems that Dr Green isn't the one that Summer Bay's residents need to be worried about.

Wednesday's episode (April 21) on Channel 5 saw Lewis attempt to kill Ari Parata, hoping that his death would prove Christian is a risk to patients.

For now, only viewers will be in on the secret that Lewis is a very dangerous man. But for those fans who just have to know that a soap villain will get their comeuppance, here's some Oz-paced gossip on how this saga plays out.

The truth about Lewis's evil vendetta has been exposed on Australian screens this week, but as Home and Away's episodes Down Under are about a month ahead of those in the UK, there's still a little while to wait for viewers watching on Channel 5.

The key comeuppance episodes which aired in Australia this week are due to transmit on UK screens on Tuesday, May 18 and Wednesday, May 19 – so prepare yourselves to keep shouting at the TV until then.

Lewis's attempt to kill Ari is ultimately unsuccessful. Ari's ex-partner Mia walks into the hospital room before the ruthless nurse gets a chance to inject Ari with a substance that would end his life.

Christian is later able to bring Ari out of his coma, leaving Lewis stunned as he never expected Ari to make a recovery from the recent hit and run incident. Only Lewis is aware of how close Ari came to losing his life when he decided to take matters into his own hands.

In the coming weeks on Channel 5, Christian loses another patient at Northern Districts. The hospital begins to ask awkward questions in the fallout, as a pattern of deaths seems to be emerging here.

Lewis loves every minute of the scrutiny that Christian is facing, hoping that it's only a matter of time before he gets fired.

With his career under threat, Christian drowns his sorrows at Salt and punches Lewis in a moment of anger. Lewis retaliates by reporting Christian to the hospital and the police.

Much to Lewis's dismay, however, Christian is let off with a lenient punishment for his spontaneous act of violence. The hospital also ultimately decides that there's no case for him to answer over the sad losses of recent patients.

Once it's clear that Christian will be allowed to keep working at Northern Districts, Lewis takes matters into his own hands by knocking him out and holding him captive in an unused floor of the hospital building.

With a defenceless Christian tied to a hospital bed, Lewis orders him to confess on camera that he was responsible for the death of Lewis's wife Anna, who was pregnant when she lost her life as a result of a road accident a couple of years ago.

When Christian refuses to take responsibility for Anna's death – still confident that there was nothing he could have done to save her – Lewis changes tactics by trying to kill him.

Luke Arnold, who plays Lewis, recently told Aussie magazine TV Week: "Essentially, Lewis believes that while Christian is a surgeon, innocent people will die.

"He believes he's left with no other recourse to do the right thing than to take action into his own hands."

Lewis hooks Christian up to a heart monitor and prepares to inject him with the same substance that he nearly killed Ari with. By using the heart monitor, Lewis wants to see the exact moment that Christian dies.

Christian's life hangs in the balance as Lewis dishes out the injection, but after realising something isn't right, Tori and Jasmine rush in at the last second.

Tori is able to save Christian's life, while a defeated Lewis chooses to hand himself into the police after the failure of his mission.

Even afterwards, though, there are plenty of unanswered questions for all involved. Can Christian and Tori ever move on from this traumatic experience? What will Lewis's punishment be? And how will all of this affect Jasmine, who took a major chance on love when she let Lewis back into her life?

Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.15pm and 6pm on Channel 5 (UK), with first look screenings at 6.30pm on 5STAR. Selected classic episodes are available via Amazon Prime Video in the UK.
