Home and Away star Johnny Ruffo is trying to stay positive after being diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour earlier this week.

The 29-year-old actor, who played Chris Harrington on Home and Away, underwent an emergency operation to remove a tumour from his brain earlier this month.

He has since confirmed that the tumour was found to be cancerous and he is now preparing to undergo more treatment to fight the illness.

Speaking to Be in the wake of the news, his manager Claire McLennan said the star is being supported by his mother and his girlfriend Tahnee Sims at this difficult time.

"It's scary and frightening," Claire said. "Especially for anyone going through this.

"Johnny's with his family at the moment. He's gotten so much support from everyone and it's just been lovely – there are still good people in this world."

Sharing harrowing pictures of his head stapled together, the actor – who rose to fame on the Australian X Factor – first revealed that he'd had to have emergency surgery to remove a tumour after initially going to the doctors with a migraine.

Johnny's Instagram page has been inundated with messages of support from fans and former colleagues since he announced his shock diagnosis yesterday (August 17).

Home and Away stalwart Ada Nicodemou (Leah) and former cast member Rhiannon Fish (April Scott) both sent their well wishes to Johnny, with Ada writing: "Sending you so much love and all my strength. Fight the fight like I know you can".
