Home and Away star Lynne McGranger has hilariously pranked the soap's producer over her character Irene Roberts' love life.

Appearing on Australia's Fitzy and Wippa show, the actress opened up about the fact that Irene doesn't have much of a romantic connection on the soap.

"She doesn't murder her husbands like Leah does," she joked. "Leah is the resident black widow. Leah has all her husbands up on the mantelpiece, that have died."

However, things escalated when the hosts decided to call Home and Away producer Lucy Addario, with Lynne earnestly proposing a number of potential romances for the character... including John Palmer and Alf Stewart.

"So I've been thinking about it and we've talked to Shane about it too, I've just wondered if there's any mileage and say Irene and John's relationship just getting a little bit awkward, a little bit flirty, a little bit weird," Lynne asked.

"Of course they're also going why don't Alf and Irene have sex on the beach... but we want people to turn on not to turn off!

"Well if it's not Shane maybe we could get Colin Firth in – just saying," Lynne added, before admitting it was all "a joke".

Lucy saw the funny side, though warned the star: "Be careful what you wish for, Lynne!"
