Home and Away spoilers follow from Australian episodes, which some UK viewers may prefer to avoid.

Home and Away star Tim Franklin has spoken out for the first time since Colby Thorne's exit, after his final scenes aired in Australia earlier this week.

In scenes that will air in the UK in a few weeks' time, Colby's younger sister Bella Nixon refuses to leave the prison until she knows what's happened to her brother, after he was caught up in another incident.

After receiving a letter from a prison guard addressed to Bella, Colby's best friend Dean Thompson hands it over. In the letter, Colby tells Bella that he doesn't want her to visit him any more, as it's not fair on her and too hard for him.

Reflecting on his last appearance as Colby, the Home and Away actor told Now To Love that he was "surprised" his character wasn't killed off.

"I was really shocked, I was really surprised, you know, surprised that it wasn't going to be a death to be honest," he admitted.

"I was trying to convince [the writers] for a long time, like, I want to go out guns blazing. But, when I read it, I really loved it; it's a really nice little end for Colby. He needed to pay the price at some point."

Praising the slow burn of Colby's arc, Tim added that he was pleased the Aussie soap decided to let his story "rest for a long time." "I knew it was going to come around, like a cheeky little storyline boomerang," he said.

As for how it felt leaving his co-stars after three years in Summer Bay, Tim revealed that there were "a few tears" – mainly his own.

"It was like a family member moving away, except I was the one that was leaving, it was sad," he said. "We'd become a family over the past three years, you spend more time with the cast that my family and friends. There were definitely a few tears, mainly from me."

Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.15pm and 6pm on Channel 5 (UK) and Mondays to Thursdays at 7pm on Channel 7 (Australia).
