Clarice, Home and Away star Rebecca Breeds' latest drama series, finally has a UK broadcaster.

UKTV announced today (November 4) that it has acquired the show for leading crime drama channel Alibi, and the 13-part series will air this December.

Clarice is a spin-off from Thomas Harris' 1988 novel The Silence of the Lambs and its film adaptation starring Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins.

Rebecca Breeds, known for her role in Pretty Little Liars as well as playing Ruby Buckton in Home and Away, plays the titular character.

She stars alongside The Walking Dead's Michael Cudlitz, Designated Survivor's Kal Penn, Orange is the New Black's Nick Sandow, Animal Kingdom's Lucca De Oliveira, Watchman's Devyn A Tyler and Criminal Minds' Marnee Carpenter.

The official synopsis reads: "Clarice is a deep dive into the untold personal story of FBI Agent Clarice Starling (Breeds) as she returns to the field in 1993, one year after the events of The Silence of the Lambs.

"Brilliant and vulnerable, Clarice's bravery gives her an inner light that draws monsters and madmen to her.

"However, her complex psychological makeup empowers her to begin to find her voice while working in a man's world, as well as escape the family secrets that have haunted her throughout her life."

While the events do occur shortly after those of the 1991 film, it has already been clarified that due to rights issues with Thomas Harris' book characters, the charismatic cannibal Hannibal Lecter, who aided the titular FBI agent as she hunted another serial killer, won't be mentioned by name.

However, the trailer dropped back in February and the series does seem to include some other key elements from the original, including the classic speech that opens: "The lambs were screaming… I couldn't save the lamb. But I will never stop trying."

Clarice will air this December on Alibi in the UK.
