Home and Away's Emily Weir calls for Mac's family to arrive

Home and Away star Emily Weir has opened up about wanting her character Mackenzie's family to make an appearance on the soap.

Mackenzie's half-brother Dean has already been introduced and their father Rick has also featured, but little has been revealed about her other family members.

"I'd love to see her with siblings, but also Mac's mum," Weir told Inside Soap. "I want to meet her, and I'd want her to be played by Emma Thompson – I love that woman!

"It would be interesting to explore the relationship Mac has with her parents. Mackenzie always claims she's very close with her mum, but we've never met her."

Weir also revealed what fans want from Mackenzie's love life. The Summer Bay resident broke up with her boyfriend Ari Parata (Rob Kipa-Williams) earlier this year, later finding out she was pregnant but sadly losing the baby.

She then kissed her best friend Ziggy's boyfriend Tane Parata (Ethan Browne) while she was on a downward spiral.

Weir admitted that fans want the potential romance with Tane to continue on the show.

"When Mackenzie and Ari got together, there was always this underlying sexual chemistry with his brother," she explained. "It was a very strange love triangle – but fun to play.

"There was a fantasy scene where Tane had a vision of him and Mac hooking up and you think that it's real, but then he's back in reality. That got a lot of traction, and a lot of viewers wanted Tane and Mac together. It hasn't happened yet, but anything is possible…"

However, there have been suggestions that a romance might be blossoming between Mackenzie and the new doctor that has been introduced to the show, Logan (Harley Bonner).

"It's suggestive for a reason," she teased. "That's what I will say. But that's been fun so far, and Harley has been refreshing to work with. Logan's great for Mackenzie too, there's a lot of banter and intelligent wit between them," she added.

Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.15pm and 6pm on Channel 5 (UK) and Mondays to Thursdays at 7pm on Channel 7 (Australia).
