Home and Away's John Palmer will fear he's killed his own wife Marilyn Chambers in a gripping new storyline set to hit Aussie screens next week.

While viewers in the UK have yet to see the scenes, a recent plot twist in Australia saw John (Shane Withington) revealed as a mystery arsonist who'd been causing chaos in Summer Bay.

The shock moment aired in the closing moments of the show's 2016 season finale in Australia, confirming that John was responsible for a number of recent blazes in the area. It's always the one you least suspect...

To make matters even worse, John was seen starting a bushfire next to a bustling music festival in the Bay, risking the lives of many of the soap's most familiar faces.

With Home and Away due to return for its 2017 season in Australia next week, TV Week now reports that Marilyn will be among those potentially in danger as the flames spread.

John is panic-stricken as Marilyn is nowhere to be seen among the chaos and he heads out to search for her with moral support from Alf Stewart (Ray Meagher).

Scott Lee, who plays local teen Hunter King, told the magazine: "It's a small town and Marilyn is a massive part of it. There's a lot of fear and panic for her."

Hunter finds himself in jeopardy too - desperately trying to find Olivia Fraser Richards, who's also missing.

Scott revealed: "Hunter's thinking the worst, because he can't find Olivia. He's acting on fear and not thinking rationally.

"Hunter runs into the fire, which is stupid. But he's scared of losing the girl he loves. He puts himself in a lot of danger and ends up in hospital."

Home and Away airs these scenes next week in Australia and mid-March on Channel 5 in the UK.
