Home and Away spoilers follow for UK viewers.
Home and Away fans will see Tane Parata in a desperate situation when the soap is back on our screens in the New Year, as he is rushed to hospital with severe injuries after returning from a mysterious trip away.
In scenes to air in early January, Tane (Ethan Browne) is away from Summer Bay and trying to work out what to do with a stolen van packed full of dodgy gear that he has been lumbered with after his return to criminal activity.
Back in the Bay, Ziggy Astoni (Sophie Dillman) is attempting to cover for Tane with his concerned brother Ari Parata (Rob Kipa-Williams) but Ari can't help but feel suspicious about what's going on.
Matters don't improve when Tane finally calls Ziggy as it sounds like he's in a bad way and completely caught up in a dangerous situation with criminals – and to make things even worse, Ziggy can't get in touch with Tane for most of the following day.
Ziggy, unable to find Dean Thompson (Patrick O'Connor) and stuck with the van at her house, is left with no choice but to turn to Willow Harris (Sarah Roberts) for help. Willow springs into action, knowing exactly what she and Ziggy should do to move the van and who to call for help.
Willow and Ziggy soon come up with a plan to get rid of the van, although Ziggy is hesitant about getting Willow's old Mangrove River crew involved. But with Tane missing, concerned Ziggy feels she has little choice but to get involved in a world she would rather stay away from.
With an address for a drop-off point for the van in hand, Willow convinces reluctant Ziggy to join her on a girls trip and the pair head off together to try to get things sorted.
Later, Ari and Mac Booth (Emily Weir) speculate on why Tane, Ziggy and Willow have all disappeared at the same time, leading Mac to organise a night with Ari to help distract him from thinking about his brother.
Suddenly, Tane arrives back from the city, stumbling through the front door of the farmhouse before collapsing. But with Mac and Ari staying at the Parata house, and Ziggy away, there's nobody at the house to help injured Tane.
It isn't until the next day that Mac finally arrives at the farm and finds Tane, who is rushed to hospital in a bad way. Suffering with a torn liver and head injuries, Tane is in a great deal of pain and doctor Tori Morgan (Penny McNamee) is faced with the difficult decision of whether Tane should be operated on.
Tori and her fellow medic Christian Green (Ditch Davey) disagree on whether Tane should go into surgery or not but eventually Tori makes the final decision and opts not to operate, which turns out to be a successful choice.
But how will Tane explain his terrible injuries to his family?
Home and Away airs these scenes on Wednesday, January 6 at 1.15pm and 6pm on Channel 5.
