Homemade E-Bike Battery Explodes on Suburban Australian Street

A cyclist was seen running away from an exploding e-bike lithium battery in North Salisbury, South Australia, on Wednesday, March 29.

Video recorded by Luke Dumont shows flames shooting from the battery as the cyclist moves away.

South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service (SAMFS) told Storyful that there were no injuries reported and that the fire had been extinguished by the time of their arrival.

“It appeared that two batteries had been ‘stuck’ together to make an ‘e-bike’, which then overheated and caused the fire. Firefighters ‘normalised the batteries’ and handed them over to the local council to dispose of,” a SAMFS spokesperson told Storyful. Credit: Luke Dumont via Storyful
