The lakeside town of Detroit was one of five in Oregon substantially destroyed during the state’s unprecedented wildfires this week.
Returning there on the evening of September 9, homeowner Mike Weaver surveyed the destruction. His and his neighbors’ properties were completely wiped out, a lone chimney stack all that remained of his own house.
“Even though it’s a huge loss our hearts go out to the people that live there permanently,” he said on Facebook.
