A number of homes in a part of Caerphilly were evacuated on Tuesday morning after a device was concerned. Police say they were called to an address in Caernarvon Court, Caerphilly, around 11.10am.

Officers attended and a 100-metre cordon was put in place and nearby premises evacuated as a precaution. Specialist trained personnel from the army’s explosive ordnance disposal unit (EOD) were also sent to examine and dispose of the object.

A spokesperson for Gwent Police said that the EOD and officers were stood down on Tuesday afternoon. It is understood that the device turned out to be an empty shell. For the latest Welsh news delivered to your inbox sign up to our newsletter.
