Hong Kong Police Cancel Press Conference After Journalists Stage Protest

Police in Hong Kong cancelled a press conference on November 4 after six journalists in attendance took part in a silent protest that saw them wearing slogans on their helmets.

According to the South China Morning Post, the journalists involved were from Stand News, RTHK, Ming Pao, AM730, Initium and Inmedia. The slogans on their helmets called on police to “stop violence and stop telling lies,” the Post reported.

Police did later deliver a press conference, detailing incidents that had taken place over the weekend.

Protests and interruptions from journalists at police press conferences have happened before. On October 28, one reporter read a statement that criticized law enforcement, saying they treated members of the media violently and prevented them from covering the protests in the city.
