Hong Kong’s Apple Daily newspaper today vowed to “fight on” after the arrest of owner Jimmy Lai under a controversial security law imposed by Beijing.

The pro-democracy tabloid published a front-page image of him being away in handcuffs yesterday after some 200 police raided its offices.

The headline read “Apple Daily must fight on”. Readers queued from 2am to buy copies.

Mr Lai was among 10 people arrested on charges including colluding with foreign forces.

The sweeping security law imposed on June 30 — that sparked huge protests and international condemnation — punishes anything Beijing considers secession, subversion, terrorism or collusion with foreign forces with up to life in prison.
