It's all over for Hooten and the Lady – the adventure caper won't be back for another series.

The first 8-part series is airing on The CW in the US, but network president Mark Pedowitz has confirmed that there'll be no further episodes.

"We were informed by the British yesterday that they were not planning to go forward with a season two," Pedowitz said, according to The Wrap.

Sky1 – who originally broadcast the show in the UK – has also confirmed separately to Digital Spy that it has no plans to continue with Hooten and the Lady.

The show starred Michael Landes as roguish adventurer Ulysses Hooten, who teams with Ophelia Lovibond's spirited Lady Alex Lindo-Parker to recover priceless artefacts from across the globe.

Last year, both Landes and Lovibond told us that there was "definitely scope" for a second run of episodes.

"I'd like to do more of these," Landes said. "Hooten's a fun character. What's interesting is, [by series two] you will have revealed his past. I don't then want to wallow in that, so I think moving forward, I'd like to see what the next version of Hooten can do.

"It's exciting – I would be curious to see where they go."

"I think there's so much to be explored," Lovibond echoed. "There's so many more countries and so many more stories to explore. Michael and I were definitely thinking, towards the end of filming, we want to do more of this, for sure."

Alas, it was not to be and series two will exist only in the minds of fans. Excuse us, we're off to start a blog for our Hooten and the Lady fan fiction...
