Despite facing its fair share of criticism, Hooters is confirmed to be opening in the North-east, with 'coming soon' signs now displayed at a Newcastle city centre location.

Over a decade ago, there were rumours that the internationally recognised bar chain was planning a Tyneside establishment, submitting an application for what would have been their second UK venue. However, the proposal was rejected due to concerns over crime, public nuisance, and safety, even after an unsuccessful appeal, reports Chronicle Live.

As reported late last year, nine years after initial plans were dismissed, Hooters submitted a new application for Newcastle, specifically in the vacant lower ground floor of the large TJ Hughes store in the city's Bigg Market area. While an official launch date remains unconfirmed, it appears that Hooters Newcastle is going ahead, with signs outside the premises indicating 'opening soon' and inviting job applications for various roles.

The building's exterior now also features Hooters' famous orange logo and the words 'Restaurant and Bar', nestled among popular spots like Filthy's, The Points, and Popworld.

Hooters, established in 1983, boasts around 500 bars globally, yet only two have made their way to the UK, located in Liverpool and Nottingham. The brand prides itself on offering 'craveable food, cold beer, and all the sports you could possibly watch on wall-to-wall big screen TVs', with its renowned 'Hooters girls' serving up the fare,

A statement on its website reads: 'Throughout the years, we've been delighted to rescue millions from the ordinary with our one-of-a-kind hospitality and consistently good food. And though we didn't expect the crazy growth we've had, we'll keep not trying to not mess it up."
