Emergency services have been called to a Coatbridge industrial estate for the fourth time this month as residents reported a 'horrendous' smell of gas.

Firefighters and police raced to the Northburn Industrial Estate in Coatbridge on Thursday night (November 21), which has been the scene of two chemical spills and a large fire this month. Residents of nearby Burnbank Street reported a "horrendous" smell of gas coming from the estate.

Emergency services were called to Cameron Street shortly after 11pm. Scottish Fire and Rescue said Friday there were no casualties and the area was made safe, the Daily Record reports.

It was the fourth time emergency services have been called to the industrial estate this month.

On November 5, the Northburn Industrial Estate was evacuated and four people were treated by paramedics following a chemical spill. On November 14, another chemical spill was reported as emergency services descended on the scene.

On November 17, fire crews were again called to Cameron Street due to a fire on the industrial estate that killed two dogs. One casualty was assessed by paramedics at the scene and several other dogs were taken to a vet hospital for treatment, a Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said.

Residents complained of the stench of gas on social media. One said: "Just passed it. Four fire engines as well as police. The smell is horrendous."

Another wrote: "Smell is terrible when came home, smells of gas."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 11.07pm on Thursday, November 21, to reports of a smell of gas on Cameron Street in Coatbridge. Operations Control mobilised two appliances and a specialist unit to the scene.

"There were no casualties, and crews left the scene after ensuring the area was safe."

Police Scotland confirmed they attended after receiving a report of a smell of gas at Burnbank Street, adding that there was "no requirement for further police involvement".
