A brawl broke out between a group of young men outside a supermarket as a group of neighbours looked on.

Police were called to Park Road in Toxteth at 5.15pm this afternoon, May 24, following reports of a man being assaulted. Witnesses said they saw a "massive fight" between a "group of lads" outside the Park Road Tesco Extra store.

When the ECHO arrived on the scene, neighbours were still shaking their heads about what they witnessed. One woman said she was "too upset to talk about it" but added, "it was horrific".

Her friend said: "It was more like an attempted murder than an assault. We need more police round here. We need a Section 60."

Neighbours on Park Road are extremely concerned by what they feel is a rise in anti-social behaviour in the area. Speaking to the ECHO, another woman said she sees "gangs of kids" hanging outside the Tesco on Park Road "all the time".

She added: "They're just terrible. They stand around chucking stones at cars as they pass. It's so dangerous. What happens when a car has to swerve to avoid it? One of these days, they're going to kill somebody."

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We are investigating following reports of a disturbance involving a group of males in the Toxteth area this evening, Friday 24th May.

"We were contacted at 5.15pm to reports that a male had been assaulted by a group of males in the area of Park Road.

"At this stage nobody has come forward to report they have been injured and CCTV and witness enquiries are ongoing in the local area.

"Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPolCC or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting log 758 of 24 May."
