Horrific pictures show 'absolutely disgusting' flytipping in Gorton with 'needles left in park' and rubbish mounting in street
Horrific pictures have revealed the scale of flytipping across Gorton, with mattresses, sofas and rubbish seen mounting in the street and 'needles left in parks'.
Residents have been left outraged by the constant stream of litter dumping that is blighting a number of streets across the town and have called on the council to act.
Shocking pictures and videos have revealed heaps of litter left along the footpath on Glencastle Road, near to the Sacred Heart school. The state has got so bad in recent months that the waste can even be seen on Google Maps.
Further pictures show sofas, mattresses and bags of litter mounting up along nearby Sandringham Street and Sunny Brow Road. Resident Susan Shevlin, who has slammed the issue as 'absolutely disgusting' and claimed there are used needles all over Sunny Brow Park.
Local resident Susan Shevlin said "We need our parks sorted out, including Sunny Brow park. It’s absolutely disgusting. It has loads of needles, people just sit their doing their drugs, and the playground is filthy.
"There's nothing to stop the lazy flytipping. We need cameras and gates. Even a dog litter bin on Wembley Road fell down the other week because it was never emptied.
"We feel like the council are doing nice things along Hyde Road so all the people walking or driving through will think that Gorton is nice … but it isn't at the moment. Honestly it’s like we have been forgotten about or that they simply just do not care."
The latest spate of incidents comes just months after the M.E.N reported waste had once again been left on Sunny Brow Road in February, with a fridge and tyres dumped in the middle of the street.
And earlier this year, residents were once again outraged when a huge pile of rubbish was ditched outside the Gorton Cemetery - including overfilled black binbags and even an old, disused toilet.
Manchester City Council has confirmed to the Manchester Evening News that waste service company Biffa have been dispatched to the Gorton area in response to the recent complaints.
Councillor Lee-Ann Igbon, Executive Member for Vibrant Neighbourhoods said: "Any and all reports of flytipping to the Council are fed back to our contractor to investigate and clean up. We want residents to take pride the places they live, which is why it is so deeply frustrating when we hear that inconsiderate and selfish individuals have chosen to dump their waste on paths, side streets or green spaces.
"When this takes place we would urge residents to get in touch with us as soon as possible so we can investigate and attempt to track down the perpetrators of this crime."
Currently, if rubbish is flytipped, either by the person whose waste it was or by someone else, a £400 fixed penalty notice can be issued or an unlimited fine.
