A father said he was horrified when he found a piece of sharp metal in his two-year-old daughter’s McDonald’s Happy Meal burger. Luke Thomas said he found the small piece of metal in the burger at a restaurant in Cwmbran town centre last month.

He said it left him feeling panicked that his daughter might have eaten some metal while eating the burger and he immediately returned the meal to the restaurant before bringing it to the attention of restaurant staff and customer services. McDonald’s said it was thoroughly investigating, reports WalesOnline.

“I thought it was really concerning,” Mr Thomas said, sharing pictures of the small shard in the meal. “It was a hard piece of metal.

"I don’t know if it came off with a scraper or where they cut them. I took it back to Cwmbran and they said they had it delivered to head office but I’ve not heard anything.

"It was like a solid piece of metal but it was like something you could cut yourself with. It’s hard to tell where it’s come from. I panicked and pulled the burger apart. Luckily she was fine.”

A spokesman for McDonald’s said: “Food safety is of the utmost importance to us and we place great emphasis on quality control, following rigorous standards to avoid any imperfections. We would like to apologise to the customer as on this occasion it would appear we have fallen short.

"A thorough investigation is under way and the customer is in touch with our restaurant’s management team and customer services to help find a resolution.”
