Actress Katee Sackhoff has revealed she is actually a “bit of a wuss” and was terrified by filming her new horror film in the dark.

Sackhoff, who starred as maverick pilot Starbuck in the acclaimed reboot of Battlestar Galactica, plays the lead in new British horror Don’t Knock Twice.

The plot is based on a chilling twist of the childhood game Knock Down Ginger and sees Sackhoff’s character Jess try to save her daughter from a witch’s curse.

The American actress, 36, told the Standard: “I am a wuss. I should never admit that. I’ve spent so many years cultivating this hard persona but I’m terrified of everything.

"There’s a scene in the movie where I have to walk out to the middle of a pitch-black yard by myself and they wanted to get a huge wide shot and they were filming from inside the house. I was like ‘hell no’.

"Even that freaked me out. It’s one thing when the crew is standing there but it’s another when you have to do these things by yourself. We were in this old, massive mansion on a huge piece of property in Wales.

"You start to look around and realise the life that has been in this house and that can be freaky. We were convinced the old house was haunted and then the homeowner came out and told us it was haunted.”

Sackhoff, whose horror movie credits include Halloween: Resurrection and 2013’s Oculus, said: “Watching horror films is not on the top of my list. I’m definitely one to watch a nice good romcom like Bridget Jones’s Baby.”

Don’t Knock Twice is in cinemas and on demand March 31 and on DVD April 3
