Horror in West Bromwich as carjacking victims stabbed in double 'machete' attack

Police are investigating a driver and passenger were knifed in a double stabbing in West Bromwich last night. The victims, a man and a teenager, suffered stab wounds in the carjacking on Sunday night (Nov 17).

Officers closed off Lindsey Road, and parallel Kesteven Road after the 'machete' incident at around 7.30pm. The victims, whose car was stolen in the stabbing, were given advanced trauma care before being taken to hospital for serious injuries.

Five teenagers, aged between 16 and 18, have been arrested on suspicion of serious assault and robbery. They remained in custody for questioning on Monday afternoon.

West Midlands Police has since urged anyone who saw the 'disorder' to get in touch as enquiries continue. A spokesperson for the force said: "We have arrested five people in connection with a stabbing in West Bromwich. We were called to reports of disorder in Kesteven Road, West Bromwich, yesterday (Sunday), at around 7.30pm.

"Two men received stab wounds after having their car stolen. The two victims were taken to hospital with injuries. A short while later, we arrested five teenagers on suspicion of serious assault and robbery.

"The five teens - three aged 16, a 17-year-old, and an 18-year-old - remain in custody for questioning. If you witnessed the disorder, you can contact us via Live Chat on our website, or by calling 101, quoting log 3401 of 17 November."

Within half an hour, Councillor Paul Moore had posted to social media to let local residents know about the ongoing incident. Shortly past 8pm, he wrote to Facebook: "I'm aware of an ongoing incident on Lindsey Road, I'm monitoring this and my thoughts are with those affected."

Councillor Moore, for Hateley Heath, told us: "My immediate thoughts are with those affected and their families. Violence like this has no place in Hateley Heath. I'll continue to work with the police and the council to reduce knife crime across Sandwell."

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service added: “We were called at 7.25pm on Sunday to reports of a stabbing on Lindsey Road in West Bromwich. Two ambulances, two paramedic officers, a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic and the WMAS critical care car attended the scene.

"Upon arrival we found two patients, a man and a teenage male. Both were assessed and had sustained serious injuries. They received advanced trauma care at the scene before being conveyed to hospital for further treatment.”
