Horse Power: Blue Storm can win the Beverley Bullet
BLUE STORM can win the William Hill Beverley Bullet Sprint Stakes (2.35pm) at Beverley on Saturday afternoon.
Gemma Tutty's three-year-old can take the Listed feature at the Yorkshire track. The Blue Point colt has been in fine form this season, having landed a maiden success at Southwell in December on his second start for Tutty.
Blue Storm was fourth on his seasonal return, not beaten far in a five-furlong handicap at Chester’s May Festival. He built on that return to come through late on and land the Betfred 3YO “Dash” Handicap at Epsom on Derby day. He showed his continued improvement and speed when he was beaten just half-a-length in the Palace Of Holyrood House Stakes at Royal Ascot later that month. He was denied a clear run that day at a crucial moment, but still ran a superb race to be second to Pilgrim. He now faces all-age company for the first time this season and will clearly need to carry on his progress against some wily, old sprinters. But getting weight from them, Blue Storm can go well very close from a decent low draw in stall one.
Veterans Emaraaty Ana, from the Jamie Osborne stable; Michael Dods’ Commanche Falls as well as Robert Cowell’s course and distance winner Clarendon House all have a chance of victory. But Blue Storm may just deny them.
EMERALDS PRIDE can back-up his win over course and distance last Sunday with a quickfire double in the Constant Security Handicap (2.35pm). Michael Dods’ five-year-old landed a third course and distance success in good style and looked to have a bit in hand last weekend. Under a 5lb penalty for that success, he can go in again.
Stable-mate TAYGAR is also a course and distance winner and can land another Beverley success in the Constant Security Handicap (Division 2) (3.07pm). The three-year-old Churchill filly scored here on her debut last April and finally landed a second success at Ayr last weekend. She too can land another quickfire success from a decent draw in one.
Marcus Tregoning’s QUIETNESS has won four of her five starts this season and the Bated Breath four-year-old filly can grab another victory in the opener, the William Hill Silver Cup Handicap (1.30pm).
The Roger Charlton-trained AMPHIUS can get off the mark at the fifth attempt in the Churchill Tyres Maiden Stakes (GBB Race) (4.20pm).
Charlie Johnston’s BASSADANZA can win the Ire-Incentive, It Pays To Buy Irish EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes (GBB Race) (3.42pm).
Others who can triumph at Beverley are the Tina Jackson-trained course and distance winner PARK STREET in the Hull Asphalt Handicap (4.55pm); and another who has won over course and distance scorer, Nigel Tinkler’s WHATWOULDYOUKNOW, in the finale, the Westwood Apprentice Handicap (Go Racing In Yorkshire Future Stars Apprentice Series) (5.30pm).
At Sandown Ralph Beckett’s MATAURI BAY can win the Group Three Sky Bet Solario Stakes (3.35pm). The Lope De Vega colt cost 500,000 guineas last autumn and scored on his debut at Leicester debut over this seven-furlong trip earlier this month. He should stay a bit further in time and looks a smart prospect. Matauri Bay can make it two from two starts with another victory in the Group Three feature.
CHOISYA can follow up her excellent Listed victory at Haydock Park earlier this month with a first victory at Group Three level in Sky Bet Atalanta Stakes (Fillies & Mares) (3pm). Simon and Ed Crisford’s four-year-old daughter of Night Of Thunder had run well in a couple of similar Listed events over a mile at Kempton and Goodwood before she scored well at Merseyside track, Haydock. She can continue her progress with another success at Sandown.
Jamie Osborne’s SEAN can finally land a first win on British soil in the Sky Bet For The Fans Handicap (3pm). Formerly trained in Germany, the seven-year-old entire has yet to win for Osborne this season despite running some fine races in defeat having been pitched into Group company at Epsom and run in the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot. He was second in a mile handicap at Ascot at the end of June and a slightly unlucky third at Windsor last time over 1m2f. Over that same longer distance, he may be able to finally get off the mark for his Upper Lambourn handler.
Eve Johnson Houghton’s STAR OF ORION can win the Sky Bet Extra Places Every Day Handicap (1.50pm). Formerly trained by Ralph Beckett, the six-year-old gelding was ninth on debut for his new yard in a competitive handicap at the the Qatar Glorious Goodwood Festival. He was then a good second on his second start for Johnson Houghton at Newmarket earlier this month. Star Of Orion can go one better now dropped back to seven furlongs from a mile.
John and Thady Gosden’s newcomer BAYENAH may make a winning start in the Tattersalls £40,000 EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (GBB Race) (4.10pm).
Willie Haggas’ ART MARKET failed in his hat-trick bid at York’s Ebor meeting having won at Ascot and Yarmouth before. But he may be able to bounce back with victory in the Sky Bet Acca Freeze Nursery Handicap (Jockey Club Grassroots Nursery Qualifier) (4.45pm).
Michael Herrington’s GOOD EARTH was back in the winner’s enclosure for the first time in just over a year at Newmarket last week and he can double up with victory in the Sky Bet Build A Bet Handicap (5.20pm).
At Chester Willie Mullins’ ABSURDE – fourth on his first start on the Flat at the Curragh earlier this month since winning the Ebor at York last August – can prove his class and win the Listed Virgin Bet Chester Stakes (3.15pm).
Harriet Bethell’s YANIFER – a winner on the Roodee at the start of the month – can go in again in the LiveScore Bet Handicap (2.40pm).
Mick Appleby’s CALL GLORY – to be ridden by Alistair Rawlinson – can take advantage of the plum draw in stall one to win the five-furlong sprint, the CAA Stellar Handicap (3.50pm).
Others who can triumph at Chester are Liverpool FC fan Karl Burke’s END OF ROMANCE in the opener, the British Stallions Stud EBF Novice Stakes (GBB Race) (2.10pm); the Crisfords’ ADRESTIA in the Powells Jewellery EBF Fillies’ Conditions Stakes (GBB Race) (4.25pm); the Ian Williams-trained MCMANAMAN in the Horse PWR Handicap (5pm); and course and distance winner SEA GREY – trained by Merseyside-born Grand National winner Donald McCain and set to be ridden again by Liverpool jockey and Roodee specialist Franny Norton – in the finale. the Powells Jewellery Handicap (5.35pm).
