Horsham collision: Teen and grandfather killed as train strikes car at level crossing

A teen and his grandfather have been killed after a train struck a car at a level crossing in Horsham, West Sussex.

British Transport Police said they were called to Barns Green level crossing at 8.47am on Saturday.

Sussex Police and paramedics also rushed to attend, but two people died at the scene.

Police confirmed that they have been identified as a 15-year-old boy and his 72-year-old grandfather who had been on their way to a football match.

In a tweet it added that police would remain at the scene for the rest of the day.

There are no other reported injuries.

In a statement, BTP said: "At present, officers are currently examining the scene to establish the circumstances which led to the car being struck.

"The Rail Accident Investigation Branch have been notified of this incident."
