As Christmas soon approaches, many hospitality businesses in Coventry are preparing for a surge in customer bookings as the festive season begins. This means many roles within restaurants are available to cope with demand.

Many roles, such as waitressing, bar staff, and event supervisors, are currently advertised to ensure the Christmas period runs smoothly. Some are temporary, while others are permanent and full-time contracts.

Harvester

Harvester, located at the Elms in Allesley, is looking for a part-time restaurant host. The role will involve greeting, serving, and looking after guests, helping to create a friendly atmosphere, and learning the menu so you can make recommendations to guests. The shifts are said to be 'flexible' to fit around your lifestyle.

Benugo Bar and Kitchen

Benugo Bar and Kitchen, located at Warwick Arts Centre on the University of Warwick campus, is looking for a kitchen porter. The rate of pay is £12 per hour, with part-time, full-time, and term-time only considered. The role will involve ensuring that high standards of cleanliness and hygiene are maintained at all times whilst also helping with general food prep.

Training will be provided for the role. Successful candidates will get free lunch on shift, unlimited tea and coffee on shift, a 50% discount on food and soft drinks in all their locations, and free tea and coffee on their days off.

The Earl of Mercia

JD Wetherspoons in the city centre at the Earl of Mercia is hiring bar staff for 10 hours per week to cover the festive period temporarily. The role is to deliver excellent customer service to make 'hungry and thirsty customers happy,' bosses say. Candidates must be over 18 to serve alcohol, and flexible working hours are desirable.

Slug and Lettuce

Slug and Lettuce are hiring a Kitchen Team Member for weekends only. The rate of pay is up to £11.54 an hour. Candidates should have a passion for hospitality, a keen eye for detail, a willingness to learn new skills every day, the ability to assist the Head Chef with orders, and experience in maintaining kitchen equipment.

The role will include assisting with food preparation, overseeing deliveries, producing high-quality dishes consistently to specification for guests, ensuring the kitchen is clean and hygienic, and working with the team to achieve company targets.

Varsity

Located on the University of Warwick campus, student pub Varisty is hiring for a Kitchen Team Member. The rate of pay is up to £11.54 per hour. Part of the Stonegate Group, candidates should have a passion for hospitality, a keen eye for detail, a willingness to learn new skills every day, the ability to assist the Head Chef with orders, and experience in maintaining kitchen equipment.

And then a major strike that saw production of its best-selling 737 MAX jets brought to a complete halt. This week, Boeing said output was starting again, but experts say it could take months to ramp up - leaving a legion of suppliers worldwide short of business. Back in the machine shop the usual buzz of workers on day and swing shifts has gone quiet, with just Larry left to turn out a few parts."Well, in my end of it. I love seeing the different components that come in because a lot of times we have new things from engineers that it looks like a neat challenge to manufacture.”Nearing the end of their careers, this pair can afford to be sanguine. But they’ve put hiring plans on hold for now, spelling missed opportunity for hopeful workers and the local economy. Even so, Rosemary and Larry bet Boeing will recover, given time."We would be bored to death."And they’re not listening to any suggestion that it’s time to call it a day.
