Hot and Dry Conditions Fuel Dixie Fire, California's Largest

The Dixie Fire, fuelled by hot and dry conditions, ripped through the town of Greenville, California, on August 4, leaving its historic main street in “piles of rubble,” the San Francisco Chronicle said.

This timelapse footage, taken from an AlertWildfire camera, shows the fire burning over the hill from the town of Crescent Mills, as it nears Greenville.

The fire, the largest in the state, had grown to 274,139 acres with 35 percent containment by Wednesday, with almost 5,000 fire personnel deployed.

Mandatory evacuation zones were set in Plumas, Lassen, and Tehama counties. The Plumas County Sheriff’s Office warned Greenville residents that they were in “imminent danger” and must leave. Credit: AlertWildfire via Storyful
