Hot Football Transfer Gossip: Man Utd 'plot Sanchez move', West Brom 'target Terry', Everton 'want Sigurdsson'

On the one hand today’s Hot Football Transfer Gossip is eye-opening, but on the other hand it’s so blindingly obvious that we can’t believe it hasn’t been suggested sooner. Manchester United are being linked with a move for Alexis Sanchez – because of course they are

In a move the Express says will be both “sensational” and “stunning”, Jose Mourinho has begun “plotting” a summer swoop for the unhappy Arsenal forward who, as you well know, has less than 18 months to run on his Gunners contract and hasn’t shown much inclination to sign a new one.

The Express don’t appear to have anything as meaty as a United bid to report. Instead, the Red Devils are said to be “monitoring Sanchez’s situation”. Then, further down in the article, this is escalated to “watching his situation with interest”.

You can’t sign a player just by looking at him, even if it’s with a really intense Jose Mourinho stare, so hopefully at some point United will upgrade their interest to something concrete and pull off a transfer coup of RVP-esque proportions.

This scenario appears more likely given Antoine Griezmann’s apparently increasing reluctance to move to Old Trafford. The Frenchman says in the Mirror that he sees “no reason” to leave Atletico Madrid, adding something about the “great weather” in the Spanish capital. It is genuinely starting to feel like Griezmann would rule out a move to Man Utd based purely on the fact he doesn’t like rain. The guy is always talking about weather – he’s obsessed.

West Brom are set to offer John Terry the not-very-glamorous option of moving to the Hawthorns on a free transfer at the end of the season, says the Mirror. Although Harry Redknapp thinks the Chelsea “captain” should move to Arsenal instead (Talksport), but then Harry Redknapp is always coming out with silly stuff like that.

In manager gossip, Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri has issued a good old-fashioned “come and get me plea” to Arsenal, giving the Gunners three weeks to decide if they want him to replace Arsene Wenger (Star). Love a come and get me plea – there aren’t enough of them around these days.

Meanwhile, Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is on a “shortlist” of managers Paris Saint-Germain might use if they fire Unai Emery (Standard) and Alan Pardew is the favourite to replace sacked Norwich manager Alex Neil (Sun). It’s a scandal that Pards isn’t being linked with the PSG and Arsenal jobs – that man is criminally underappreciated.

Elsewhere, scouts from Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City will be watching Celtic’s Moussa Dembele in action in this weekend’s Old Firm derby (Sun), Liverpool midfielder Emre Can wants the Reds to double his wages to keep him at Anfield (Star) and Everton are lining up a “shock move” for Swansea’s Gylfi Sigurdsson (Express) – the Express evidently being a publication that is very easily shocked.
