Chocoholics will soon be spoiled for choice after a luxury chocolatier announced plans to open a cafe in Newcastle city centre.

Hotel Chocolat will create a number of new jobs when it launches its cocoa-powered cafe in Eldon Square shopping centre later this month. The company has taken over a double unit within the centre which will become home to its latest Velvetiser Café, serving its popular “velvetised” drinking chocolate alongside other hot drinks.

The cafe will serve 18 different Velvetised flavours served hot, over ice, or as chocolate shakes, with dairy milk or plant-based alternatives and an array of toppings. The concept store, which will have space for 18 guests, is being opened in addition to its existing Blackett Street chocolate shop, and is set for its opening date of November 30.

“The Newcastle store marks another step in our expansion, and we’re excited to continue offering more of these delightful, out-of-town experiences across the country in the coming years.”

Meanwhile, fellow luxury hot chocolate retailer Knoops has revealed it is weeks away from opening its first North East store in Newcastle. The company is creating 15 jobs at its eagerly-awaiting cafe with a difference in the former Pret a Manager site in Central Arcade, opposite Grey’s Monument. The Knoops store will open on December 20.

Knoops’ entire menu revolves around chocolate, including 21 different types of white, milk and dark chocolate, varying in percentage from a 28% white chocolate, to an extra dark chocolate at 100%. All are available as hot chocolate, and six of the drinks are available as iced chocolates and milkshakes.
