Halloween weekend is one of the biggest and busiest weekends of the year with bars and clubs in Glasgow expecting thousands of dressed up revellers.

From basic black cats, to people who have spent hours on intricate special effects make-up there is space for everyone on Halloween.

But what are the hottest costumes going to be this weekend? Glasgow Live spoke to Grant Gilmour, owner of Halloween Avenue in Queen Street to find out. The shop specialising in all things Halloween opened mid-August and closes after October 31.

Grant, a Halloween fanatic, said Glasgow loves spooky costumes.

He said: "Glaswegians love Halloween and they particularly love scary and gory costumes with real blood and special effects make-up.

"We thought Beetlejuice would be the most popular costume this year with the new film coming out, but it's actually been Art the Clown from The Terrifier. Terrifier 3 is just out and Art is really scary looking so that is proving the most popular costume. We have had everyone from grandads to toddlers looking for to dress as Art.

"Ghost Face from Scream, Michael Myers and Pennywise are always popular too - Glasgow doesn't really like cute costumes, they are all about the gore and blood."

Grant previously worked in costume supplies and says Glasgow is known in the industry for being head and shoulders above other cities in the UK for their love of Halloween.

He said: "I've always loved Halloween and getting creative with costumes and so it was my dream to open a shop specialising in everything Halloween.

"It is a real family affair with my sister Lauren working in the shop and my mum on the till. Everyone gets roped in to help.

"This is our second year in the city centre and we are gearing up for our busiest days this weekend. We get the last minute people, people who have ordered costumes and when they arrived been disappointed with the quality and online orders that have went missing. "

The staff are planning a party for Halloween to celebrate making it though the rush - but what will Grant be dressing as?

"I'll need to go as whatever we have left on the shop floor. Maybe a slightly damaged witch costume with missing hat will need to do after the weeken rush!"
