Bristol should brace for wet weather overnight and into tomorrow (October 16), as the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain.

The warning is in effect for much of the south-west of England - including Bristol, Somerset, Devon, and Cornwall - from 6pm this evening (Tuesday) until midday tomorrow (Wednesday).

A yellow weather warning is implemented when spells of heavy rain may cause a small chance of some homes or businesses being flooded, or buildings being damaged, or communities being temporarily cut off by flooded roads.

There is also a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes or business, and where flooding occurs there is a slight chance of delays or cancellation to public transport services, while driving conditions could also become difficult and some roads may have to be closed.

The Met Office predicts that the yellow warning means a very low likelihood of rain - but, where heavier showers do occur, this will have a medium impact.

According to Met Office weather maps, Bristol can expect up to 8mm an hour of rainfall this evening, with the heaviest showers predicted to fall between 8.30pm and 9pm, and then later from 11pm until 11.45pm. Anything over 4mm per hour is considered 'heavy rain'.

Further heavy rain is expected in the early hours of Wednesday morning, at around 5am, and later on at lunchtime on Wednesday - before up to 16mm an hour is forecast at around 5.30pm on Wednesday.

If you're wondering what the weather may look like over the next 24 hours, here's an hour-by-hour forecast from the Met Office for Bristol.
