After waking up to a white blanket across Derbyshire on Tuesday (November 19) morning, many of us will be wondering how long it will be before the snow melts - or if we have any more coming our way. The snow started to fall in areas including Belper at around 6pm on Monday after a yellow snow warning was issued by the Met Office earlier in the day.

At 11am on Tuesday, the weather warning was brought to a close, however, cold weather is still set to grip the county throughout the week. Dan Suri is a Chief Meteorologist at the Met Office and said: “An area of low pressure slides its way eastwards on Monday night. The associated frontal system, marking the boundary between cold air in the north and milder conditions to the south, will bring disruptive snow to some areas between Monday evening and Tuesday morning.

“This is likely to coincide with rush hour, leading to disruption to some transport routes across a central swathe of the UK on Tuesday morning. It will also be windy in the far south. Updates to the warnings throughout the week are likely, so it is important to stay up to date with the latest forecast”

Wednesday is expected to be sunny but cold, with a few wintry showers expected to reach Derbyshire's hills, with isolated showers also possible near the east coast where breezy. Severe overnight frost is also set to develop on Wednesday evening, particularly in rural areas.

A total of 39 schools are confirmed to have closed across Derbyshire this morning including West Park School in Spondon, Allestree Woodlands, Murray Park in Mickleover and Noel-Baker Academy, Alvaston. You can view the full weather forecast for Derby and Hathersage (Peak District) below:
