It comes as the Met Office is predicting snow across North Staffordshire overnight. In addition an amber alert has been issued until Saturday for cold weather.
Staffordshire County Council has its 38 gritters out on the roads overnight - for the first time this winter. They will be boosted by hill contractors who cover the six remotest gritting routes in the Staffordshire Moorlands.
