Hour-by-hour weather forecast as heavy snow and freezing temperatures expected across Derbyshire
Heavy snowfall has been forecast across Derbyshire and large parts of the UK this week after a yellow weather warning was issued by the Met Office. The forecaster has warned that heavy snow and ice is expected across Derbyshire from around 7pm on Monday (November 18) to 10am on Tuesday (November 19).
It has predicted that a short period of rainfall will preceed the snowfall on Monday evening, which will gradually turn into sleet and then snow as temeratures reach zero at around 9pm. More than 10 hours of snowfall is set to follow, with villages in the north of the county and the Peak District set to receive the brunt of the flurries.
Five-to-10 centimetres of snow is possible above 200 metres. At higher levels - above 300 metres - this could be as much as 15 to 20 centimetres. The Met Office warning said: "There is a small chance of snow settling at lower levels, where five to 10 cm would prove much more disruptive, but this remains very uncertain.

"As rain, sleet and snow clear on Tuesday morning, ice may form on untreated surfaces." The expected swathe of snow covers an area from the Scottish border down to South Derbyshire, and includes Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire.
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has also issued a cold health alert covering the Midlands and North of England for much of the coming week - from now until 9am on Thursday. It states that weather conditions are likely to have minor impacts on health and social care services, including increased use of healthcare services and a greater risk to life of vulnerable people.
Advice from the Met Office says: "Snowy, wintry weather can cause delays and make driving conditions dangerous, so to keep yourself and others safe: plan your route, checking for delays and road closures, amending your travel plans if necessary; if driving, leave more time to prepare and check your car before setting off; make sure you have essentials packed in your car in the event of any delays (warm clothing, food, water, a blanket, a torch, ice scraper/de-icer, a warning triangle, high visibility vest and an in-car phone charger).
