House of the Dragon has once again become the talk of the internet with its newest episode, which revealed Rhaenyra Targaryen's (Emma D'Arcy) queer identity.

The character has been shown in relationships with men, including her husband and uncle Daemon (Matt Smith), since season 1, but things shifted in the new season's sixth episode. Rhaenyra's bisexuality was a subject that viewers questioned for some time because of her closeness with Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) before they were pitted against each other, but has never been explored until now.

Before we explore how and why, be warned that this article contains spoilers for House of the Dragon episode 6.

For several episodes, Rhaenyra has relied on Mysaria (Sonoya Mizuno) for honest advice, and the pair have grown closer until this week's episode where they kissed. (Sky)

The new episode of House of the Dragon sees Rhaenyra turn to Mysaria (Sonoya Mizuno) for advice on what to do with her quest to regain the Iron Throne. She is constantly told what to do by men, and even her advisors constantly remind her she needs Daemon to succeed — it is only Mysaria who councils her without prejudice.

During one such conversation the pair share their vulnerabilities, with Mysaria revealing that the scar on her neck was something her father did to her after she became pregnant when he sexually abused her. She explains that she decided to "never trust another" after she survived the incident, but that changed with Rhaenyra because she is "steadfast" and worthy of being queen.

Rhaenyra hugs her and it is then that the tension grows between them, the yearning becomes evident to viewers before the two women share a kiss.

Viewers went on social media to share their thoughts on the scene, with one X user saying of the episode: "and if I say that Rhaenyra and Mysaria kiss is thousand of times hotter than any of the straight sex scenes on the show then what?"

Another shared: "mysaria saying what rhaenyra NEEDED to hear and rhaenyra hugging her after mysaria shared her deepest trauma, neither of them knowing what it would lead to like?? I'm sorry this is the most romantic scene of the entire show."

There was one viewer who joked about Rhaenyra slapping one of her councillors earlier in the episode, writing: "SLAPPING MEN AND KISSING WOMEN ON THE SAME EPISODE? THE BISEXUAL COMMUNITY THANK YOU QUEEN RHAENYRA"

Another said simply: "This kiss scene was perfect. Mysaria has been in Rhaenyra's corner since Rhaenyra took a chance on her. They are two women who have been undermined by men for so long, finding comfort & support in each other. I love everything about this scene."

Some viewers were besides themselves by the scene, with one writing: "RHAENYRA TARGARYEN A WOMAN KISSER WE WON", and one person adding: "RHAENYRA THE BISEXUAL QUEEN".

House of the Dragon also saw Seasmoke choose Addam of Hull (Clinton Liberty, left) as his new rider. (Sky)

The episode also saw Rhaenyra and Jacaerys (Harry Collett) begin their quest to find new dragon riders for their dragons without one, and in a surprising turn of events Seasmoke picked his rider: Addam of Hull (Clinton Liberty).

Addam is one of Corlys Velaryon's (Steve Toussaint) illegitimate children, and given his closeness to House Targaryen is a perfect candidate to become a dragon rider. Viewers were also excited by this turn of events, with one person said in delight: "SEASMOKE FOUND HIMSELF A NEW RIDER!"

Another viewer wrote on social media: "SEASMOKE CHOSE ADDAM. he really had a type, first laenor and now it’s addam, all the prettiest velaryon men is HIS".

One person added: "The beauty of Seasmoke. I think he felt through him the same blood as Leanor", the same user also said: "Found this scene with Seasmoke really beautiful. He chosed his rider".

House of the Dragon airs every Monday on Sky Atlantic at 2am and 9pm.
