How Veep will respond to Donald Trump’s controversial campaign in new season

Donald Trump’s campaign to become the president of the United States Of America hasn’t just changed the political landscape for the foreseeable future, it has also altered upcoming political television shows, too.

Shows like ‘House Of Cards’ and ‘Veep’ now need to go to even further extremes to shock and outrage viewers because of Trump’s rhetoric, gaffes, and pretty much everything that he has said and done since he announced his intention to become President.

‘Veep’s’ showrunner David Mandel has now admitted that the HBO comedy’s upcoming new season has been altered because of Trump’s remarks and actions, revealing that he and his fellow writers have looked to intensify their scripts accordingly.

Last April David Mandel told the New York Times that the current election campaign has actually made it more difficult to create the satire that ‘Veep’ is famous for, and during a more recent chat with the publication he addressed how the show will change.

“I think, for us, it will just be rethinking our own internal definitions of what is outrageous language and finding other ways to go with the show, so to speak,” explained Mandel.

However, Mandel still insisted that ‘Veep’ makes for much better viewing than Trump’s campaign as at least their episodes and series have an arc and build. Mandel continued, “Whereas, whoever is writing [Trump’s] stories could use some better work on structure, because it’s a little random and whatnot.”

‘Veep’ is also more enjoyable to watch because of its lack of risk, because the ramifications of a Donald Trump presidency are truly terrifying to consider.
