Long-awaited Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon is finally about to make its UK debut - but how can you watch it?

When is House of the Dragon on TV?

The new series debuts its first episode in the UK on Monday, 22 August.

However, fans will have to be super keen to see its first showing on TV as it airs at 2am.

To be able to watch House of the Dragon, you'll need to be a subscriber to either Sky Atlantic or NOW TV.

If you're wondering why it makes its debut at the unsociable hour of 2am, the reason is that it will be simulcast in the US on the evening of 21 August, with UK viewers getting the raw end of the time difference deal.

Fans who don't want such a late night/early morning can catch a repeat of the episode on Sky Atlantic at 9pm, or stream it throughout the day on NOW.

Who stars in House of the Dragon?

The spin-off series is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and tells the story of the Targaryen dynasty.

Starring as the Targaryen ancestors are Paddy Considine as Viserys, Emma D'Arcy as Rhaenyra, and Matt Smith as Prince Daemon.

Game of Thrones fans will have welcomed the news that Kit Harington is developing a sequel, Snow, continuing the story of his character Jon Snow.

His former co-star Emilia Clarke who played Daenerys Targaryen told the BBC: “He has told me about it. And I know it exists. It's happening.

"It's been created by Kit as far as I can understand, so he's in it from the ground up. So what you will be watching, hopefully, if it happens, is certified by Kit Harington."

House of the Dragon begins on Monday, 22 August at 2am on Sky Atlantic.
