Huddersfield chippy secures top hygiene rating after 'harsh' report
A fish and chip shop has won back its five-star food hygiene rating following a 'harsh' one-star report earlier this year.
Mother Hubbards in Bradford Road, Fartown, Huddersfield was given the one-star rating by Kirklees Council following an inspection of the fish and chips outlet on June 13 this year.
The June report had highlighted the 'unhygienic practice' of soaking cloths overnight in washing up liquid and bleach, as well as inadequate food preparation procedures. The premises has recently been visited again by a Kirklees Council inspector and given a five-star rating, the business has proudly reported.

A spokesman for Mother Hubbards said improvements had been made following the one-star report. They said: "We spent approximately £3,500 on painting and repairs. All staff have now had full training to a high standard.
"When we had the first visit the staff were unsure about certain things which they are now fully trained. Now there is always a manager in the shop at all times. "
The shop spokesman said customers 'could not believe' the premises had previously been given a one-star rating. "On the second visit from HO (environmental health) she was extremely happy with the results and awarded us five stars....everything is excellent."
The spokesman said issues raised in the original report had been addressed. On the issue the soaking of cloths, he said: "Now we use disposable cloths which we change every day."
He said the potato storage room had been re-plastered and painted. In June the inspector had said the room had been in 'poor condition'.
