Ken Davy caught everyone's attention on Monday evening when he announced that Huddersfield Giants were planning to build a new stadium of their own in the future. The long-term owner of the club announced at the club's end-of-season awards evening that the Giants would look to build their own stadium in the near future in a move that would see them leave the John Smith's Stadium.

The Super League side has been at the John Smith's since it's opening in 1994, however, Huddersfield Town are currently in the process of taking on full ownership of the facility. Beyond that, the Giants have struggled to fill the stadium over the years, which has drawn criticism from supporters for the lack of atmosphere that can be generated.

The club posted on X about Davy's announcement, and while details were vague, more are now coming to light courtesy of a club legend. Eorl Crabtree made over 400 appearances for the Giants during 17 seasons with the club and remains involved in a commercial capacity and as an ambassador.

Posting on LinkedIn, Crabtree gave further insight into the club's plans, revealing that the new facility would likely have a 9,000 capacity and be built in the next three years.

"Nobody expected this announcement from our chairman Ken Davy," Crabtree posted.

"The Huddersfield Giants RLFC are to build their own stadium with an expected capacity of 9,000 in the next 3 years. This is a statement of intent and brilliant news for Huddersfield and rugby league in general."
