Huddersfield pub to stage 'international crisp festival' - and 1,000 snack fans can't wait
A Huddersfield pub is to stage an 'international crisp festival' with more than 50 varieties from around the world.
The 10-day snackathon will open at The Sportsman, a real ale pub on St John's Road and a popular haunt for sports fans on match days. The pub has advertised the event on Facebook and already almost 1,000 snack fans have responded to say they are interested in having a nibble. The festival will run from October 11 to October 20.
The social media ad states: "A celebration of the Ultimate Bar Snack....The Crisp!

"Over 50 varieties of crisp from around the World."
No-one was around from The Sportsman to explain how the event will unfold, or to provide the all-important list of the 50 varieties on offer. But crisp fans have provided their own wish list ahead of the festival.
Commenting on social media, one said: "Hope you have some Two Farmers crisps at the event. You could have a meet the packaging developer, as that would be me."
Another wrote: "Gonna need to make the pub bigger!"

In 2019 The Sportsman was given Grade II listed building status and was described by historians as a 'rare example' of its type. Built in 1930, the pub was designed in response to government concerns about public drunkenness.
Known as 'Improved pubs', they typically had several rooms offering food and leisure activities as a way of reducing the emphasis on alcohol consumption. Improved pubs started appearing at the end of the 19th century but most of them - like The Sportsman – were built in-between the First and Second World Wars.
Brewers like Seth Senior and Sons, who built The Sportsman, were keen to improve the image of the public house and attract a more respectable clientele.
