Huddersfield shop known for its stuffed croissants named best in England
A Huddersfield businesswoman is celebrating with her family after her shop was named the best in England.
Nina Budwal's shop, Sal's Desserts in Luck Lane, Paddock, Huddersfield, was crowned Best Dessert Shop in the country in England's Business Awards. In July, the shop won the regional title.
Nina, a former Royds Hall School pupil, where she first learned to bake, named the shop in honour of her mum, Salwinder, who accompanied her to the awards ceremony in Birmingham on Sunday.

Nina thanked her customers for voting for Sal's Desserts which helped clinch the awards win. She was left 'completely speechless' at the award, saying it was a victory for a shop in "little old Huddersfield."
"Our nerves were through the roof until the moment our name was announced. I was in complete and utter shock," she said. "I can’t express how much was running though my head walking up to that stage but that moment will never be forgotten."
Nina created Sal's Desserts around three years ago and runs the business with her mum and dad. The shop sells everything from cakes and milkshakes to waffles, and is also a party venue, cafe and an outside caterer.
Asked about the 'top sellers' and the 'must try' products, Nina said: "Our top sellers are our waffles we are known for having the best waffles In Huddersfield as we load up on the toppings and chocolate sauces.
"Our milkshakes are also one of our top sells. We are known for thick and full of flavour milkshakes as we used gelato ice cream and load up on the chocolate in the mixes - all milkshakes are finished off with chocolate drizzle and cream.
"It's very hard to narrow it down for top sellers but I would say the ultimate top sellers and what brings people to visit Sal's Desserts is our instore freshly baked cakes and tray bakes such as our Matilda choc cake, stuffed cookies, cookie pies and we do a lot of school day puddings that people love such as cornflake tart, jam and coconut slice and old school sprinkle cake.
"Our must tries at Sal's Desserts is definitely our stuffed croissant - we do a huge range of hot cookie dough stuffed croissants and cream filled croissants. Another must try is our hot sugary seaside-style donuts. We also give the option to add toppings on each donuts.
"An underrated 'must try' in our store is our chocolate dipping fondue platter, a perfect dessert to share and indulge in. Our platter contains 10 different toppings to dip into."
She added: "What makes Sal's Desserts different is the huge range of other desserts we do." Nina, of Almondbury, began baking at home as a teenager and just got better as she went along. By the age of 18, she had started a business from home, baking and selling cakes and cupcakes.
She credited the shop's success to her mum, saying: "I think she was the only one who believed in me."
