Huddersfield town centre demolition as revamp plans take next step
Bulldozers have been busy pulling down sections of the old piazza shopping area in Huddersfield town centre.
Demolition work has begun on pulling down old shop units besides the former Queensgate Market hall listed building which is being re-shaped for use as a modern food hall.
Construction work has already started on the refurbishment of the listed market building which will become a food hall.

Architect firm Chapman Taylor released artist impressions of what the newly revamped area will look like when all the developments are completed, including the creation of a modern library and an outdoor space.
The project is expected to be completed by the winter of next year.
Earlier this year Kirklees Council announced details of the 'refined' plans for the first phase of the authority's 'Cultural Heart' scheme which will include a new food hall and library.
The revised plans include the retention of more original features of the Grade II listed Queensgate Market Hall. The overall masterplans is being delivered in phases to enable more 'financial flexibility', the authority has said.
This first phase of the masterplan will focus on the refurbishment of the Queensgate Market building, which will house a new food hall with space for around ten independent food stalls.
Last month Chapman Taylor said: "Construction has started on site on the first phase of the refurbishment of the historic former Queensgate Market building in Huddersfield, which is part of its strategy to unlock new jobs and economic growth.
"Chapman Taylor is the Executive Architect for this flagship Huddersfield scheme, working with BAM Construction, the lead construction contractor chosen by Kirklees Council. This decision marks a significant step forward in the council's ambitious ten-year Huddersfield Blueprint vision.
"Planning consent was obtained in early 2024 for the focal point of the project, which involves revitalising the former Queensgate Market and Huddersfield Library buildings. The transformed structures will house a vibrant food hall and a modern museum and gallery. These exciting additions will complement a new community-focused library, a live entertainment venue, and a 350-space car park. A series of public areas will be created to connect these spaces seamlessly."
Phase one of the project will focus on refurbishing the historic Queensgate Market site. The site will be transformed into a contemporary food hall, a modern library, and an outdoor public square. The project is expected to be finished in the winter of 2025.
