Huddersfield's Deighton Carnival list of rap, reggae and dance acts lined up as date set

This year's Deighton Carnival and procession with take place on Saturday June 29 and promises to be a day of music, dancing and colourful costumes.

The Carnival itself will take place at the Deighton Centre in Deighton, Huddersfield from noon until 7pm and is free, with lots to do for all the family, young and old. Last year's event was enjoyed by around 10,000 people.

And this year's theme is Welcome to Deighton as the event marks its 23rd anniversary with a special new project celebrating 50 years of black music and culture in Kirklees and across the UK, which is a project involving Kirklees Libraries and the British Library.

This year's Deighton Carnival will feature a young people’s music arena, Ras Amharic Roots and Culture Arena, plus a music arena for the older music fans.

The opening of the Carnival which will take place at 1pm with the cutting of the ribbon to start the procession. A special guest is blessed with the honour of opening this year’s Carnival.

The Procession will make its way around the Ashbrow Ward arriving back at the centre at around 2pm, where the field activities will already be in full swing.

Tuckers Fun Fair will again be in attendance with various rides.

Howard Belafonte, Deighton Carnival events coordinator, said: "After the overwhelming success of the 2023 Carnival which attracted a turnout of well over 10,000 people during the day, another fun packed free family day out is planned and promised.

"Our stage show line up promises to be the best one to date with acts and performances already confirmed."

This year's headline act is Kahpun, the internationally acclaimed reggae artist hailing from Ghana who is known for his energetic live performances.

Others acts lined up are:

Farda Fox – Compere/host, described as the "original Carnival stage show compere".

DJ Sway - Swaytel - Compere/host.

Lil Jam - Teen singing sensation - real name Jamelia K Sadiq - who started her music journey at the age of eight when she performed at a sell-out show in London.

Tribal Shoots - Local band back by public demand. An energetic 3-piece band.

Isle in Harmony - A favourite of the Deighton Carnival Street procession, and one of the most popular Carnival troupes on the UK Carnival circuit.

Pure Elegance - Another favourite with the Carnival audiences, Pure Elegance have performed in street processions at many UK Carnivals.

Serenity – Female singer, excellent performance at last year’s Carnival

White Rose Gymnastic School

Eze - Spoken word/rap artist.

Phoenix Mas Band - Deighton based Carnival troupe, lively, vibrant colourful.

DJ Hughlin - Nationally renowned DJ.
