Fire on the roof of Room 21 in Stockton sparks huge emergency response

A blaze on the roof of a Teesside sports bar sparked a huge emergency response.

Seven fire engines and police cars were called to the scene when the fire broke out at Room 21 on Stockton's Yarm Lane on Friday afternoon. Members of Cleveland Fire Brigade used an aerial ladder platform to tackle the flames, which were quickly brought under control.

The road was closed by police while firefighters dealt with the drama at the sports bar.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: "Police are assisting with a road closure on Yarm Lane towards Stockton High Street after a report of a fire around 2:50pm. Cleveland Fire Brigade colleagues are on scene."

A spokesperson for Cleveland Fire Brigade said: "Cleveland Fire Brigade were called on 24/01/2025 at 14:48 to an incident on Prince Regent Street in Stockton. Fire on roof of building. All persons accounted for. Police and North East Ambulance Service were in attendance. Fire has now been fully extinguished. Stop came in at 15:43."

Room 21 said on social media: "Everyone is safe, the fire was external and thankfully we have suffered very minimal damage to inside the club - we are open from 5pm. We’d like to thank Cleveland Fire Brigade for their swift response, especially today being as challenging as it has been with the wind."
