Works to make a huge change to a traffic-clogged Nuneaton roundabout are just weeks away. Letters have been sent out in regards to the plan to install new traffic signals with pedestrian and cycling crossing facilities on the Heath End Road/Greenmoor Road junction.

Those who objected to the proposals, which are aimed to help ease the notorious traffic congestion in the area, received a letter from Warwickshire County Council. In it, they were told that despite their concerns, the works are going to take place.

The letter also goes in to explain that they are due to start this summer. "I assure you the comments you made were carefully considered but needed to be balanced against the benefits the overall A444 corridor improvements will being (of which the traffic order is a key part)," the letter reads.

It goes on to say: "Such as addressing congestion issues on the A444 growth corridor, managing traffic flow, improving highway capacity, network resilience, journey time reliability, pedestrian/cycle infrastructure, and realised planned employment and housing growth."

The letter concludes: "Works are planned to start in summer 2024."

The aforementioned A444 corridor improvements are part of Shire Hall plans to help ease the well known traffic issues in the area. The finer details of these improvements have not been revealed.

Initially, there were proposals for the 'stone' island at the island junction of College Street and the A444, particularly turning left from the bypass onto College Street and heading towards the Heath End Road mini island.

But then highways bosses decided to go back to the drawing board. What new plans are being proposed have still not been revealed. However, the county council did buy some land from the George Eliot Hospital, adjacent to the Bull Ring side of the site, for the future plans.
