Huge County Road smash as driver 'pulled from car' and woman left with broken arm

A man says he had to pull a driver out of a mangled car after a dramatic smash on County Road this morning.

Police were called to the main road at the junction with Wilburn Street in Walton at around 9am on Saturday (January 25) following a major crash between two cars.

Videos shared with the ECHO showed an Audi and a Ford having both sustained significant damage following the crash, resulting in debris being scattered across the road. A Merseyside Police force incident manager told the ECHO the driver of one car, a 22-year-old woman, suffered a broken arm and the man who was driving the other car was arrested after failing a drugs test at the side of the road.

An eye-witness told the ECHO: "It was bad - I was one of the first to the scene, I had to pull the driver out of the silver Audi, the car was filling up with smoke and I thought it was about to go on fire. The driver was unresponsive but after I got him out he got up and stumbled everywhere."

The road was closed for a period this morning but has now reopened. The Audi sustained damage to its front end, with its right-hand side wheel having come off.

The Ford had also been badly damaged, with its right-hand front wheel also knocked off, while its bonnet and front door were wrecked.
