Huge fire breaks out at Burnham agricultural building as crews work through the night to contain blaze
A huge fire broke out overnight in a massive agricultural building near an Essex town. Firefighters fought the blaze for most of the night from 4.09pm on Friday (January 24) until the early hours of this morning.
Many units at the building in Marsh Road, Burham-on-Crouch caught fire shortly after 4pm with firefighters working hard to keep the blaze under control. However the flames did spread to many parts of the building.
Crews worked to surround the fire but with considerable smoke at the scene, people were urged to stay away and any residents nearby were advised to keep their windows shut to avoid smoke coming into the home.
Station Manager Scott Fretton said at the time: "The building is completely alight and firefighters are making steady progress, but expect to be here overnight. There is still a lot of low level smoke in the area so if you live nearby please keep your windows and doors shut."
Relief crews from Harlow, Colchester, Clacton, Grays, Brentwood and Orsett remained at the scene to monitor the scene throughout the night. There were no reported injuries., and an investigation will be carried out when the fire is completely extinguished.
