Huge industrial fire sends huge plumes of smoke across Bassetlaw

A fire in Retford involved more than ten tonnes of tyres going up in flames. Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service was called to North Road in Sutton-Cum-Lound at 10.07pm on Saturday, June 1.

The incident occurred at an industrial site, and fire crews from Retford, Worksop, Misterton, Tuxford, Warsop attended. In addition, a water bowser from Clay Cross was involved.

Two main jets, two hose reel jets, 10 firefighters in breathing apparatus and a thermal imaging camera helped put the fire out. The incident was scaled down throughout the night with firefighting operations ending at 6am on Sunday, June 2.

Reinspection of the site continued throughout the morning to ensure no hot spots remained and the fire service said it had had no reports of any injuries. Pictures posted online showed smoke billowing through the air in Bassetlaw.
