Huge Locust Swarms Invade Saudi Arabia

Swarms of locusts that have threatened the food security of East Africa have now spread to Yemen and Saudi Arabia, among other countries.

Video here, shot in the city of Khobar, Saudia Arabia, shows a biblical scene as swarms of locusts cloud the sky.

Swarms of locusts have been observed across Saudi, the Arab News reported, having spread from the Horn of Africa.

Saudi authorities have doubled daily aerial spraying, the Arab News said.

The UN said the swarms were the biggest seen in 70 years in Kenya, and 25 years in Somalia and Ethiopia. This was putting “crop production, food security and millions of lives at risk,” the UN said. Credit: @4_pinkfish_2 via Storyful
