Huge multi-agency search scrambled in hunt for Scots hiker last seen two weeks ago
A huge multi-agency search has taken place as part of the hunt to track down a hillwalker who is believed to have vanished near to a Munro in the Highlands.
Ian Ross, from Dingwall, last spoke with his family almost a fortnight ago, on Sunday, September 8, and was reported missing to police by his family on Tuesday, September 17.
A search involving search and rescue dogs, a Police Scotland helicopter, mountain rescuers, and the RAF has taken place to try and trace the 65-year-old in the Beinn Dearg area near Torridon.

A post about the rescue mission, which took place on Thursday, was posted on the Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team Facebook page earlier today.
It said: "On Thursday, team members turned out to assist Torridon mountain rescue team in the continuing search for missing hill walker Ian Ross in the Beinn Dearg area in Torridon.
"Along with two SARDA dogs, team members from Torridon, RAF Lossiemouth and police north division mrt and a police Scotland helicopter. hill parties searched the area on and around Beinn Dearg in good visibility, sadly nothing was found."
Officers searching for Ian, of Dingwall, Highlands, began their search when his relatives reported him missing as they'd failed to hear from him for a week.
His car was traced at the car park of Beinn Alligin, Torridon, on Wednesday, September 18, leading to searches of the mountain and surrounding areas.
He is described as being of slim build, with wavy grey hair, is white and stands at 5ft 9ins tall. It is not known what he was wearing when he vanished.
Sergeant Duncan Birse, Dingwall Police Station, said previously: "Mr Ross was last spoken to by family on Sunday, 8 September. He is in regular contact with his family and when they hadn’t heard from him for a week, they contacted police.
"He is a keen hill-walker, and due to the fact of where his car was found, we have experienced officers along with colleagues from local mountain rescue teams searching Beinn Alligin and the nearby areas in an effort to trace him.
“We’d ask that anyone who may have seen Mr Ross since Sunday, 8 September, or his grey Dacia Duster car to get in touch. Information can be passed to officers via 101. Please quote incident number 2381 of Tuesday, 17 September 2024 when calling.”
