More new homes are being built at a major new estate on the edge of Nottingham as plans are pulled and reconsidered so the project can move forward. Work is continuing to progress at the Fairham site between Gotham and Clifton, which will eventually include 3,000 new houses.

As well as thousands of new-build homes, there will be vast swathes of employment space at its business park, a primary school, community and sports facilities, and a neighbourhood centre. There is also a safeguarded route to allow for the possible future extension of the tram through the site, and gypsy and traveller pitches.

Clowes Developments, which is behind the huge project, recently withdrew its plans for a sporting pavilion on the site - so it can resubmit a reorganised plan that takes into account the new school that is planned nearby. A representative said this meant the changing rooms, which will help new residents take advantage of the neighbourhood's playing fields, would be built in a way that makes more sense with the rest of the large and complex site.

Elsewhere at Fairham, housebuilders are ramping up construction of the first homes off Remembrance Way and Nottingham Road. In recent weeks Redrow East Midlands, which is one of the many housebuilders signed up to the scheme, started work on 93 new homes at its Dovecote Grange development.

There will be three, four and five bedrooms on offer from the housebuilder’s heritage collection, which it says combines architecture inspired by the arts and crafts era combined with contemporary, refined interiors. These properties will also be part of what Redrow calls its 'Eco Electric generation', featuring air source heat pumps and underfloor heating as standard, which is designed to greatly reduce energy bills and contribute to sustainable building.

Ryan O’Sullivan, sales director for Redrow East Midlands, said: “It is an exciting moment for us all as we break ground on our newest site, Dovecote Grange. The development has wonderful amenities nearby, while also benefiting from being close to Nottingham centre, making it the perfect location for those looking to live in a thriving community that offers the best of both town and country living.

“We expect these homes will be very popular, especially with their eco-electric credentials, so would advise anyone looking to move to the area to register their interest sooner rather than later.” Redrow added it was contributing towards the new shared foot and cycling paths, employment opportunities, 200 acres of green open space and £100 million into new infrastructure at Fairham.
